ideas with legs
[i hate daisies, but i like how this photo turned out]
there's something to this idea of doing morning pages. i completely take the stream of consciousness approach and i'm amazed at some of the ideas that have spilled onto my pages. good ideas. ideas with legs, as they say.
i'm working hard at feeling good right now, and you know what? i feel good right now. that's such a nice switch from where i've been since march.
bringing a smile to my face today:
jodi's fantastic bus story. she has the best bus and subway stories. her writing seems so effortless and unpretentious.
rachel's beautiful photos of the ring and the kiss
this baby's face. he looks like a 40 yr old italian man in a baby's body. he's so precious.

When I was in acting school (ugggh -- oh god, I could tell you stories!), one of the instructors suggested we do The Artist's Way thing, complete with Morning Pages. I started to read the book, and it annoyed the hell out of me -- although I did like a lot of the little quotes sprinkled in the margins. I did the Morning Pages for a while, though, on the long train ride from Philadelphia to New York (when I was still actually commuting), and found it absolutely ------ EXCRUCIATING. Sometimes I think about doing it again, but as it is, I already wake up at 4:30 to go to the gym, and there ain't no way in heeeellll I'm getting up any earlier than that to write these pages. I find I get my "yayas" (gaye) out at the gym, anyway, which is its own catharsis or whatever. But good for you, for doing it, if you like it.
Oh, and another thing I think you'll smirk at, like I did. Some of these "actors" would get together for Artist's Way DISCUSSION GROUPS, where, if I knew them (and oh, I did), they'd all be, like, I dunno, sitting around in a circle, nude, crying about this, that, and the other thing.
Whatever works, works, though, and I'm glad you're finding something that does it for you. Just no nude circle-sitting, OK? Or else I'll have to disown you.
